What is Bugged?

The Game

Bugged is an experiment in a new kind of mobile phone game, built on the idea that sharing people's creativity will lead to better entertainment.

In the game, you move your bug around the screen and try to get to the finish goal, as shown in the screenshot below. The balls are bouncing around the screen with you. If one of them hits you, you die. If you make it to the goal, then you finish the level and move on to the next one.

The levels

Bugged comes with 16 levels. These levels get progressively harder as you move through the game. In itself Bugged can played as a regular game which will take some skill to complete. But what makes Bugged unique however, is that you can create your own levels for the game, as shown below.

Using the level creation screen, you can make your own level. It's very easy to use, you just pick up objects using the cursor, and place them wherever you want on the screen. You can also choose the size of the level and the direction for the balls to move in. After you've finished it, you can save it to the phone's memory, then play it whenever you want to. You can even edit the level to make adjustments later on.

The sending

Once you've made your great level, wouldn't it be nice to share that level with someone else? With Bugged, you can. Using a new unique feature, you can send your level using SMS to another player who has Bugged installed on their phone.

Sending couldn't be simpler. You just enter the phone number and send. Because of the way the levels are encoded, you will only be charged the price of a normal SMS message and not the price of an MMS message. If the level is big, it will be sent over multiple messages.

When the level reaches your friend's phone, it will be automatically saved into the phone's memory for them to play.

The website

So you've played the game and completed it. You've even made a few levels and sent them to your friends which was fun. But now what?

That's where this website comes into play. The Bugged website has a database of levels for Bugged. Where do these levels come from? From people like you. In the same way that you can send and receive levels from your friend, you can send and receive levels from this website.

It's simple and very easy to use. The 'All Levels' section of the website contains a table of all the levels in the database. In it you will find the official Bugged levels for the game, plus levels made by users. You can search through the levels and get information on each level, including a preview picture of a part of the level. Once you have decided to get one, with just one click it will be sent to your phone.

If you want to send a level to us, that's easy too. You simply send the level to the Bugged phone number and let our website take care of the rest.

The aim

This website is all about people sharing their creative talents. There is only so much creativity in a handful of people designing levels for a computer game. But in the general public? The creativity there is pretty much endless. In time we hope to create a huge database of quality levels which will give people entertainment for a long long time.
